The ancient part of the farm dates back to early 19th century, it comes out of the “family passion” for the Apulia territory, so rich in history and tradition, but still little known. The farm owners’ purpose was to make the excellent products of the area.
Nowadays the main aim of the wine production of the farm is that of preserving the principal features of the local vine, the Primitivo di Gioia del Colle, whose origin can be traced back to the Peucetii times. The variety of that vine was classified for the first time in the second half of 18th century by Indelicati, a primicerius Benedectine monk, who, foreseeing the good quality of the vine, selected the best plants.
Next to the farm a new vineyard has been planted in an area fit for the growth of Primitivo of Gioia del Colle. The excellence of this wine is the result of a lot of combined positive aspects such as the hilly setting at about 350 meters above sea level, the frequent climate variations, and the rocky ground full of minerals offering the soil a reddish colour, which the “Red Lands” are named after.
